Pyridoxine, also known as vitamin B6, is a fundamental vitamin needed for a variety of functions in the body. It is involved in over 100 enzyme reactions, the majority engaged with protein metabolism. Vitamin B6 is used in the creation of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which control anxiety and sleep.

Calcium is the fifth most abundant element in the human body. As an electrolyte, it plays a vital role in physiological and biochemical processes. Most notably, calcium is needed to build and maintain bones. Calcium is also used in the bloodstream to send nerve signals, regulate muscle and blood vessel movement, and release hormones.

Magnesium, the fourth most abundant element in the human body, is equally as vital as calcium. An electrolyte as well, it is involved in hundreds of chemical reactions in the body including energy creation, protein formation, gene maintenance, muscle movements, and nervous system regulation. The chemical process by which serotonin is produced is dependent on magnesium.

Valerian root contains compounds such as valerenic acid, isovaleric acid and a range of antioxidants that may benefit sleep and reduce anxiety. Valerian root has been shown to interact with gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a chemical messenger that helps regulate nerve impulses in your brain and nervous system, including those associated with sleep and mood. Passionflower or Passiflora incarnata another medicinal plant, has been shown to increase GABA, and together with valerian root may help improve overall sleep and reduce stress.

Additionally, it is needed to maintain proper levels of an important amino acid in the blood called homocysteine. Vitamin B6 is involved in gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis, immune function. These are processes used in the formation of glucose in the blood. https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminB6-HealthProfessional/

Though calcium is a fundamental element, our bodies do not produce it. We can only get calcium from certain foods and calcium supplements. https://www.healthline.com/health/8-fast-facts-about-calcium

Serotonin and other hormones regulated by magnesium are crucial for calming the brain and promoting relaxation. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23950577

Valerian root contains compounds such as valerenic acid, isovaleric acid and a range of antioxidants that may benefit sleep and reduce anxiety. Valerian root has been shown to interact with gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a chemical messenger that helps regulate nerve impulses in your brain and nervous system. Studies have shown that low GABA levels related to stress are linked to low-quality sleep and other emotional issues. Valerian root may help alleviate the anxious feelings that occur during a stressful situation. Additionally, several studies suggest that it may help not only improve sleep quality but reduce the time it takes to fall asleep and stay asleep. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11807960, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3936097

Passionflower or Passiflora incarnata has been used as a folk remedy for many years to help with anxiety and sleep issues. Scientists are still not entirely clear as to how it works but with the current literature, they believe it has certain compounds that interact with receptors in the brain that are associated with relaxation. Passionflower has been shown to increase GABA, which as mentioned above, in low levels is linked to anxiety. The negative effects of sleep disorders, such as insomnia may be alleviated by passionflower, especially in combination with valerian root.     https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10711131,https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21294203
