Chromium picolinate is a mineral known to enhance the action of important hormones used in metabolism and storage of carbohydrate, fat, and protein in the body. Surveys have shown that most Americans consume enough chromium in their diets, however other researchers believe that chromium deficiency is prevalent in people who do not respond properly to blood sugar-regulating hormones . https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Chromium-HealthProfessional/
Certain hormones have an important role in signaling the body to bring blood sugar into cells. Studies have demonstrated taking chromium supplements can improve blood sugar for those with diabetes. In one large study of over 62,000 adults the risk of diabetes was 27% lower in those who took dietary supplements containing chromium. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24635480, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16784965, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26446484
Chromium may reduce hunger and cravings which can aid in weight loss. One study gave 1,000 mg of chromium to 42 overweight adult women for 8 weeks. Results showed that adults taking chromium supplements reduced food intake, hunger levels, and fat cravings, and tended to decrease body weight. A small study observed the benefits of chromium picolinate supplements for people suffering from a binge-eating disorder. The results showed that doses of 600 to 1,000 μg/day may lead to reductions in the frequency of binge eating episodes and symptoms of depression. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18715218, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4358897/
